H A L F P A W stand my ground and never back down
morning light peered gently across the horizon, spilling easily across the sand. sun-rise was never quite so beautiful anywhere but here on the beach sands. small stones in the sand's conglomerate sparkled with the bright light, shining beautifully where ever one dared to look upon the ground. the beach itself was quiet except for the gulls and splashing of waves which was not a gentle lap as most would love in the morning. the roar of water upon the wet sand was a awakening for the entire clan, as if they already weren't up by dawn anyhow. the tide would come in about then and curse the ears with it's relentless howling and pounding sloshing sounds. it was a duller sound, however, which would reach the ears of the cats. they were far away enough that the sound would wake them from a dream, but not scare the mouse dung out of them as they did so.
it was comforting in a way, to know that even mother nature had it's wake up calls and such to alert others of her presence. in the cloudclan camp, surrounded by sand and a few trees, the tall beach grasses which made the dens were well protected from the merciless winds of the coastline. halfpaw himself woke to the noises of many things, the ocean waves, the howling wind, and the noises of those cats who had woken up before him. blinking his eyes lazily, the young apprentice made no move to lift his head, he would not be moved so easily from his rest when he technically had no responsibilities within the camp.
minnowstar had yet to appoint him a mentor, so as far as the leggy tom was concerned, he was little more than a kit and not yet considered capable. and therefore had nothing amazing enticing to do. he curled his body in tighter, wrapping his tail around his front paws to keep them warm. it was always a little frosty in the morning thanks to the battering wind. he laid his head upon the ground, eyes barely open to watch the movement outside. just what was he to do with his day when there was really nothing he necessarily had to do...? he sighed greatly, blowing dry sand out in front of him towards another apprentice's bed, one which was clearly defined as empty.
"dandy," he stated airily, not even bothering for a small laugh as he often would, instead simply watching the sunrise and listening to the calls of gulls. not even the hunger clawing at his belly could persuade the half pelted tom to move his small bulk from his deliciously warm and comfortable bed. it was just too enjoyable.
