cimmerian
his dark coloration- named by his mother.

AGE 24 moons
GENDER male
RANK loner
CLAN none
LOOKS with his narrowed, blue-tinted green, pale eyes peering out of a streamlined, pointed face and a nose as coal-black as the rest of his frame, cimmerian's visage is actually rather handsome. even his whiskers, claws, and paw pads are a smoky midnight black- he looks like a shadow. of course this makes his name make plenty of sense; 'very dark; gloomy'- his appearance is, indeed, a bit gloomy. his fur is long and feathery soft rather than thick, and shines a chocolatey brown in bright sun. otherwise he is entirely ebony, free of any flaws to his lovely fur.
LIKES being in good company, laughter, kits, quiet time, his siblings, the concept of family, being impressed, gifts, birds, the breeze, being asked for advice
DISLIKES strangers, most kittypets, most clan cats, his mother, his father, rain, being wet, meeting new cats, being left alone, the way his life has turned out thus far, lightning
FEARS being alone forever, never finding his siblings, confrontation with his mother, lightning
HOPES to begin his own family some day, to find his siblings, to find happiness
OVERALL upon first encounter with this big shadow of a tom, one may first notice his rigid, oddly unfriendly politeness. he is curt, his voice cool and devoid of emotions. of course, his manners are incredibly well done, but somehow his politeness seems even more cruel than any snarls ever could be. you see, cimmerian is terribly unfriendly with strangers, and wary of those he doesn't know. he's not hostile- he wouldn't dare attack a cat he does not know, but this doesn't keep him from being harsh with them, in his own way. it's almost as if his odd amount of politeness is to let them know that they'll never be anything more than a stranger to them- make them aware he's uninterested in their company or their warm tones. though with friends his politeness does not falter, it becomes something warm and genuine. of course, friends of cim's aren't easy to come by, so his friendly side doesn't often come out to play. it takes a truly persistant cat to keep from being intimidated by cimmerian's aloof manner.
should one make it past the stranger stage of a relationship with cimmerian then they had better behave themselves. no matter what, this tom often seems to be living in a state of sulky bitterness, brooding to himself so often. though he enjoys the company of others, he grows tired of annoyances, and should he be somehow betrayed or upset by someone he becomes frighteningly resentful- there is no doubt that cimmerian can hold a grudge to his grave. he does not forgive, and he does not forget. a cat who does wrong by cim is banished from his life- and this punishment is never relaxed. he will freely disregard them and shun them. of course, his default setting is "cold" anyway, but the temperature is turned even lower when he feels wronged. regardless, cim is a naturally quiet tom. taciturn to the fullest, he only speaks when he feels it necessary, and speaks only the precise number of words needed to get his point across. even when his spirits are high conversations with him go like that.
if cimmerian's anything, it's definitely mature and level-headed. this is perhaps where his strict politeness policy comes from, and the way he deals with those he dislikes. he feels that he's often above fighting, and though he won't back down from a threat, he knows he's better than that, and would rather solve the conflict in a different way, or even simply walk away despite calls of being a 'coward'. he's not a coward, he could even be called brave, but his definition of brave is not like all others'. cimmerian is known for being authoritative- taking control of a situation and handling it in his odd manner. he is calm- sometimes so calm its spooky, and he does things with peace in mind. he's no pacifist, but he belives he knows better than most, thus assumes his way is the best. he won't take no for an answer when it comes to knowing how to handle tough situations, as it was always his job with his siblings.
cim is hardworking, he's tough, and he's proud. this big tom's not afraid to put his entire heart and soul into a task, and does so in everything that he does. he's not the type to half-ass any chore, regardless of its important, and when he sets his mind to something it will be done and it will be done well, in a timely fashion. this kind of mindset has gotten him through the most difficult points in his life by keeping him occupied and making him strong and making him tough. for this, he feels no pity or compassion for the weak when he finds that they are lazy or unmotivated. cimmerian is the type of cat to feel that anyone can make their way in the world if they try hard enough, and when it comes to this philosophy he can be merciless. he's an extremely proud tom- he is proud of how far he has come, and he's proud of the way he's dealt with hardships in his life. the way he looks down on others and the way he deals with strangers makes him come off as cruel and vain, though he is neither, it's not tough to mistake him as such. after all, he's no softie.
if all that makes cimmerian seem like a bit of a big tough asshole, you're not far from the mark- most of the time. in honesty, his treatment of those he cherishes can be starkly different from the way he regards the rest of the world. while he'll never be soft, and he'll never be remarkably kind, cimmerian is an incredibly selfless fellow. he'd sacrifice anything to help the ones he loves, including his resources, his happiness, even his life. not only that, but perhaps linked to that, is his protective manner. while sometimes a bit overbearing when it comes to the ones he loves, it's simply instinctive for him to act this way after his life fell apart at a young age for him. all in all, cimmerian can be straight up fatherly. though quiet and gruff and aloof, he can be oddly loving and happy to dish out advice, look after others, and hand out praise when its earned. he does like company, even if he wouldn't admit it. he's not easily trusting, but once a cat earns his trust and proves they can keep it, they've earned a valuable friend who won't quickly abandon them.
PAST cimmerian was the eldest of his litter- the only litter he was ever aware that his mother birthed. his brother was named wisp and his sister, the youngest, named witch. their mother, called raven, was good at heart and taught her kits well, even when she seemed a bit harsh to cimmerian, who, as he grew older, learned to take care of his siblings as much as his mother did. after all, they were the only ones he had, he didn't see a reason not to look after them with every fiber of his being. he looked most after his sister, but she didn't need it. she was the toughest of all, he sometimes thought.
they were happy, but cim couldn't help but notice the way his mother peered at wisp sometimes, something strange in her gaze. still, he never could have guessed when he woke up one night, unable to sleep, and wandered to the beach only to find his evidently homicidal mother trying to take his brother's life. he cried out for his sister's help and sprang into action, fiercely dragging his mother away from wisp's limp silver form and chasing her away while witch drew wisp from the water. together they coaxed the water from his lungs, in a state of shock.
the siblings weren't sure how to deal with the situation. though they had all learned to hunt and could fight well enough, their family had crumbled unexpectedly before their very eyes and living on their own was harder than they expected since they all remained so shaken. wisp was, of course, the most effected. after all, his own mother had tried to take his life seemingly out of no where, but cim and witch were no less shocked by the event. how could raven do such a thing? cimmerian grew bitter the more he thought about this disgusting betrayal, and though he had never been a particularly talkative tom, he became even quieter as he watched his brother become a recluse.
still, they were drifting apart. this event had effected them all in a different way, and the young cats still were unable to deal with it. so, when wisp began talking of leaving, cim was considerably less reluctant than he would have been before it happened. but it seemed this family no longer had anything to offer, and while he itched to stick around and look after wisp and witch, he foolishly agreed to leave.
of course he regretted it the moment he did it, and several cold, lonely nights later, when he wandered back to their old home hoping to find at least witch still living there, he found nothing but old pawsteps in the sand. hope was lost, and cimmerian despaired. he was growing into a different kind of cat than he had been, though threads of the softspoken, kind young tom still lingered deep inside, he was only becoming more bitter in his loneliness. he scared strangers away with the unforgivably harsh looks he cast them and the ghost-like way in which he spoke to them, like a hollowed-out shell of a cat.
recovery was slow and he remained rather sad and lonesome, and to this day is still this way, but eventually he began to fight for himself. he would build himself thick, sturdy dens where ever he went, just to keep himself busy. it became a peculiar skill of his- building nice homes out of whatever he could find, and he'd leave them there once he decided to move on. he secretly hopes they have found thankful inhabitants.
he found other hobbies to keep himself occupied as well. he's not proud of all of them- like ruthlessly baiting and teasing kittypets, but some proved useful. he became a remarkable hunter, and even learned to weave flowers together in the name of boredom. he always clung to the hope that someday he would find a pretty girl to present such flower wreaths to and make her fall hopelessly in love with him. of course, that hasn't happened, but it's hard to impress a girl when one hates every stranger he comes across.
still, cim knows he's still in his prime. he still hopes to have a family of his own some day, and even more than that, he strives to find his own siblings along the way. it is for this reason he has found himself lingering closer and closer to the beach where they once lived. for now, he remains too cautious to venture closer to where he knows clans reside, but some day he knows he will find witch and wisp. the only hope he clings to stronger than that is that he will never, ever encounter raven again. should he do so, he's afraid he just might kill her himself. after all, she ruined his life. the grudge he holds against her is more fierce than any other before.
