LOOKS
It's a genetic mystery where she gets her diminutive size from. Neither of her parents are as small as her, and neither are her grandparents. Next to her sister, she's small. Next to her mate, though, Shiningpaw is downright tiny. The tips of her ears just about graze a normal sized warrior's shoulder. Her limbs may be short, but her claws are as sharp as can be. She makes up for her size in her ferocity in battle.
Shiningpaw gets her name from her pelt. It's blinding white, with nary a marking on it. It's like a field after a fresh snow-fall, when nothing has disrupted the snow. The only thing that mars the prettiness is the multiple scars that go along her body. Her eyes are bright blue, and are often wide in joyous excitement.

Shiningpaw adores having fun. She's capable of being serious when she wants to be, but she usually leaves serious situations to her best friend and sister. Shiningpaw usually turns any situation into a game or a competition, purely for her own amusement. Boredom is her eternal enemy, so she does everything she can to stave it off.
This apprentices's heart is big enough for everyone: her best, her sister, her parents, her friends, and her not-so-friends. She considers everyone to be her best friend, and so treats everyone the same. The leader and medicine cat gets the same warmth and affection as her parents do, and the other apprentices get the same protection and love as her sister does.
It's easy to tell when she's in a bad mood, though. The only times she uses sarcasm is when she's angry or annoyed or just plain irritated. Despite not using it often, though, she's well versed in it from her childhood of arguing with her best friend's mother. Shiningpaw can whip out a sarcastic retort within half a second of you delivering one yourself. In her family's opinion, she's the most fun to argue with when she's in this mood.

PAST
Ratttail and Darkpelt met when they were apprentices. They were instantly drawn to one another in a way that neither could understand or explain. She loved his strength of spirit and character, and he adored her fiery and argumentive nature. The only problem was that they were in different Clans. Rattail belonged to Cloudlan; Darkpelt, to DuskClan.
Despite the many differing views between the two Clans, they somehow made it work. They had a plan. Whenever he or she wanted to see the other, they'd put a scratch on a tree just inside their own territory, where the other Clan could see it but not say anything about it. Then they'd meet at Fourtrees that night. It was a good arrangement; none of their Clanmates suspected anything between the two of them.
They still had their Clan loyalty, though. Whatever they told each other couldn't be used against them. He never told her about the rising power of a she-cat in his Clan named Moonfrost; she never told him about the rogues in the Carrionplace attacking their patrols. But they did tell each other other things, things that would have been announced at the Gatherings. She told him how her sister was in the nursery now. He told her that one of their apprentices had been made a warrior.
What Darkpelt neglected to tell Rattail, though, was about the growing tension between her and her sister. Dawnfire was her sister's name, and she was a true DuskClan cat through and through. She detested everything that CloudClan stood for, and was proud of her strength and skill. Dawnfire had been trying to set Darkpelt up with toms of their Clan, but Darkpelt would just blow them off.
It finally came out into a big fight between the two of them. Dawnfire asked why Darkpelt didn't want a mate. Darkpelt said she just didn't want to get into it. The argument escalated until Dawnfire accused Darkpelt of being jealous of her, because she had a mate and Darkpelt didn't. Imagine Dawnfire's surprise when Darkpelt exclaimed that she did have a mate, in CloudClan.
Both she-cats were horrified. Darkpelt ran away from Dawnfire, and from DuskClan. She went to CloudClan and pleaded to join the Clan. Rattail backed her up, and that's when their 'dark' secret was revealed. Darkpelt was allowed to stay, but wasn't allowed to be on border patrol or hunting patrols. Whenever she left the camp, she'd have an escort that wouldn't be Rattail. This would go on until Darkpelt proved her loyalty. It wasn't necessary. She'd barely been there a week before the medicine cat declared her expecting kits, and Darkpelt was moved into the nursery.
Oldest of two, Shiningkit was named for her blinding white pelt. From the beginning, she was small for her age. Some cats thought she wasn't going to survive to become an apprentice, but she proved them wrong. They all underestimated her strength. She and Venomkit, her sister, both got their pelts from their father's side of the family. Rattail's mother was Whitewhisker, a pure white she-cat with his amber eyes. Venomkit got his dark gray, with a lick of white on her throat. Both she-kits got their crystal blue eyes from their mother.
They weren't the only kits in the nursery, though. Another queen named Moonfrost had a son, named Blizzardkit. Shiningkit knew they were there even before she opened her eyes because she heard Moonfrost talking about them to him. To her confusion, Moonfrost didn't seem to like any of them. She said that Darkpelt shouldn't be living in CloudClan. In Moonfrost's opinion, Darkpelt and Rattail should have been killed once their indiscretion been known. Shiningkit and Venomkit's very existence went against the warrior code.
Shiningkit didn't like that Moonfrost was talking about them badly, but couldn't very well do anything about it until she was older. The first time she opened her eyes, she walked right up to Blizzardkit and meowed, "Hiya! I'm Shiningkit! You're Blizzardkit, right? Wanna be friends?" It was a bold move, but one that worked in her favor. From that moment on, the three of them were inseparable. You could always find at least two of them together. Blizzardkit never strayed very far from them, to his mother's chagrin.
Moonfrost never hid her distaste for the little she-kits. They were half-Clan, and so to her meant little more than a piece of crow-food rolled in fox-dung, and she treated the two as such. Shiningkit didn't understand why her best friend's mother hated her so much, but she decided that it was Moonfrost's problem. Shiningkit gave as good as she ever got. Thus began the epic enmity between queen and kit.
When Shiningkit reached two moons old, she experienced loss for the first time. Rattail had been out in the territory, hunting alone, when a fox caught him and killed him. The only one who didn't seem to feel the loss was Moonfrost, and that just made Shiningkit hate her all the more. When Blizzardkit became Blizzardpaw, Shiningkit was glad to see Moonfrost leave the nursery but would miss her friend. Two moons later, she and Venompaw joined him in the apprentice den.
The day of her apprenticeship brought change. More change than anyone wanted. DuskClan raided the camp and chased CloudClan right out of their territory. Moonfrost used this and said that it was a sign from StarClan, that Shiningpaw and Venompaw didn't belong in the Clan and should be killed or made to leave. Some cats believed her, others thought she was full of it.
It made life even more difficult for Shiningpaw and her sister, but Blizzardpaw never left them. He was a constant rock for the sisters, even as the very territory around them changed daily. Every day, Shiningpaw was a little more thankful for his presence.
