AGE Seven moons
GENDER Tom
RANK Apprentice
CLAN Forestclan
LOOKS
Squirrelpaw is a lanky tom, all legs and no muscle. While his sister is bit enough to pack a punch, Squirrelpaw is built for speed. At this tender age, he's quite awkward looking with gangly legs and big ears that are far too large for him. When he finishes growing, he'll be a moderately handsome, if slender, tom. He holds himself with confidence, and has an easy, relaxed gait. His eyes are honey-yellow, and a bit big for his currently thin face. He'll grow into them.
LIKES Fighting, exploring, being loud, climbing, crowds, showing off, impressing others, his trinkets, spiders.
DISLIKES Being ignored, silence, being alone, storms, being scolded, apprentice chores, flying insects in general.
FEARS Being abandoned, failure, water.
HOPES To be respected and loved by the clan, to be a great warrior, to find more shiny things for his treasure trove.
OVERALL
Squirrelpaw is aptly named, despite the fact his mother couldn't have possibly known what a hellion he would grow into. Originally named for his ginger fur, Squirrelpaw has grown to also embody the endless energy of his namesake. This little tom is constantly bouncing around, looking for new things to do and new cats to play with. He is loud and has a great deal of trouble sitting still, constantly twitching and moving about to look at everything around him. Naturally, he has a short attention to go with this endless enthusiasm. Squirrelpaw is a quick learner, but his inability to focus on anything he finds boring means it's nearly impossible for him to take advantage of this.
He is a social creature, and hates being left alone. Squirrelpaw seeks out the company of his peers, and is quite friendly and confident when dealing with others. He meets new cats easily, and treats familiar ones with a great deal of affection. He can be a bit rude in his enthusiastic, overly friendly ways, but he's mostly oblivious to this flaw. Squirrelpaw seeks the approval and acceptance of those around him, and will push himself to the limits trying to get this approval. He looks up to the older warriors of the clan, doing his best to emulate them.
Squirrelpaw is a scrappy, playful thing. He likes to tussle with his peers, and will often challenge his fellow apprentices to bouts of wrestling and scrapping. He enjoys fighting in this way, and doesn't hold grudges if a stronger apprentice manages to beat him in one of his fights. He is a bit rough when dealing with others, often headbutting his fellow cats in a sign of affection or roughly jostling shoulders. He is fascinated by battles, and the surest way to get him to pay attention during training is to mention fighting techniques. Squirrelpaw dreams of being a great warrior some day.
If left to his own devices, Squirrelpaw loves to explore. He is rather fearless when dealing with his adventures, only hesitating if faced with an impassable obstacle. While he is terrified of water, he adores climbing and is swiftly becoming quite skilled at it for his young age. He often looks for shiny rocks, feathers or even two-leg trash while out on patrols, and if he finds something interesting he brings it back to the camp to hide in his nest. He calls this his treasure trove.
Squirrelpaw is outwardly confident, even if he does overestimate himself. However, Squirrelpaw is plagued by a constant fear of failure. He lives in fear of being wrong, of being rejected, of not being the best and the brightest. Because of this, he works as hard as he can to be the best warrior he can be. In dealings with other cats, he is assertive and unafraid to get his feelings across.
Squirrelpaw is inquisitive and not unintelligent, but his excitement and enthusiasm often means he doesn't think before he acts. Squirrelpaw is young and rash, and he tends to act first and think later. Mostly, he says things without thinking of the consequences. But he'll also leap straight into battles he couldn't possibly win. He tends to succeed at what he does through determination, rather then skill.
Squirrelpaw is a fiercely loyal cat, to an unhealthy degree. He doesn't quite comprehend that his clanmates could mean to harm him, and he trusts them with his life. He would willingly die for his clan... and expects them to do the same to him. He tends to refuse to see the flaws within his clan until it's too late. A betrayal from one of his clanmates would be devastating, and Squirrelpaw would be quick to blame himself for it.
PAST
Born into a litter of three, Squirrelkit was the middle kit of Goldenwhisker and Redear. His elder sister, Yellowkit, was a calm and collected kit who was constatly minding her siblings and tugging them back into line. His younger sister, Cherrykit, quickly outgrew her siblings and established herself as the boss of the three. She far out weighed her slimmer brother, and constantly beat him at wrestling contests.
Their mother, Goldenwhisker, vastly preferred her eldest child to her troublesome younger kits. She spent a great deal of time with Yellowkit, and mostly just called after Squirrelkit with an exhausted 'Squirrelkit, no!' She was an excellent mother, if prone to picking favorites.
Their father, Redear, was awkward with his kits. He wanted to bond with them, but he had no idea how to connect with such young cats. He instead bonded with them through made-up stories that told tales of grand warriors and the bravest of cats. Squirrelkit was entranced by these stories, but the strong Cherrykit was their father's favorite. He spent a great deal of time with his youngest kit, teaching her basic hunting moves.
Squirrelkit wasn't unloved, but he was often ignored. The problem child, he quickly learned that the best way to earn the attention of his parents was to act out. Little things like stealing Yellowkit's mouse, or teasing one of the elders. Or, big things like trying to escape the camp and getting grounded to the nursery for the night. He exhausted his parents with his constant escapades and misbehavior.
The three became apprentices quickly, despite joking that Squirrelkit would be confined to the nursery until he was an elder. Squirrelpaw was delighted to finally be allowed to leave the camp, and took advantage of his newfound freedom to learn to climb trees and collect shiny little trinkets.
Cloudclan was a distant mystery to the tom, who has never even seen one of their warriors before.
